THE STRANGE FLU
Two weeks back , i got the chills.then these turned into a fever and a BAD case of body ache and headache.
so there i was under a quilt and with a hot-water bag and crocin down my gullet. ken tells me i was so delirious that i kept telling him to call kenny.after a point,he says he told me that he agreed to call himself.
perhaps , the strangest thing was that i felt exhausted all the time.
finally, i went to the dr and had blood tests done. no malaria, nothing.just some evil flu.
my dear friend rajen insisted i had 'chikungunya' and advocated rest and soup.
madame rao knew [like me] that i was burning up all my residual anger and that the fever was there to cleanse me and perhaps to give me some insight about having to leave this place i have called home for 11 odd years.
the sweetest was my dear ken who lovingly and patiently helped me through this strange flu.he took over ALL CHORES and just let me sleep and sleep.
and then shibumi got the same flu and it was further compounded with an upset stomach.in 2 days , she lost 3kg.
frail she may look, but how she fought with us to be allowed to go to school.
i cannot understand stoics. i suffer and suffer and go crazy and make everyone around me crazier, but not this shibumi desai.thank god.
well, the dr put me on tylenol which worked and brought down the fever.however it brought on my periods early and how !
i have been going to school but coming back and just crashing.i dont think i have needed to sleep so much in my life.
i really need to run away to a place in the hills which serves wholesome bawa meals.
wishful thinking indeed as we are gearing up to shift to andheri.
one day at a time, sweet jesus, i tell myself.........
